A ‘leader’ once told me, “You can’t share that kind of information with them, it will freak them out.” ‘Them’ was a reference to our entire staff and the information was our cash position and cash forecast. I wasn’t the CEO at the time, and it wasn’t my call. We provided benign and thin company updates. They included a series of platitudes, ‘attaboys’ and recycled information. Employees felt disconnected and uninformed. Those were certainly more stable times than we are navigating now. Today, I am the CEO.
